The Spaulding Network offers expert burn care for the full continuum of needs from inpatient rehabilitation to outpatient follow-up care. At every stage, our goal is to help patients maximize their functional independence, find emotional strength and confidence, and successfully transition back to home, work and the community.



Approach to Care

Our clinical teams work collaboratively to help patients adapt to their condition and regain function and independence. Families are an integral part of the rehab process. During hospital stays they play a vital role, learning practical skills and therapeutic techniques to assist in ongoing care after discharge.

Our interdisciplinary teams provide comprehensive care to individuals with acute burn injuries in our renowned Burn Rehabilitation Program in Boston as well as at other Spaulding locations throughout our network.


With care tailored to meet each patient’s needs, team members may include physicians, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists; plastic surgeons, physiatrists and wound care specialists; psychiatrists, psychologists; peer counselors, dieticians, social workers, and case managers. The team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality burn rehabilitation and medical management possible.

In 2010, Burn Rehabilitation patients at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston achieved higher functional gains than the national average for rehabilitation (UDS database).

Program Director(s)

Dr. Jeffrey Schneider is the medical director for the Burn Rehabilitation Program at Spaulding Boston. He is a board-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Schneider is conducting a study examining the effects of a large-scale fire on the survivor population. He is looking particularly at the medicinal, psychological, social, occupational, functional and legal impacts of the fire on its survivors.
